I did do a review on eating takeout pizza slices with wine - purely because you can then afford to splash out on wine, and enjoy it all in the company of your own home. And a while back I did a review on drinking wine from a brown paper bag in Central Park with hamburgers. Wine really needn't be pretentious. But I also appreciate that its not everyone's thing. And I guess if you didn't aquire a taste for wine in Paris (where you can usually get a Maison Rouge for 10 Euros.) My wife also doesn't usually drink - so I appreaciate the duality of Paris - me ogling at Chablis and Burgundy whilst she can't believe that they have entire stores dedicated to chocolate and macaroons! Like you, I find most restaurant reviews way over my head. How about if they tell me whether the foods good or not without mentioning how many different "inspirations" the chef has.
