  • 5 Reasons We Should Save The Environment

I’m not going to give you the old, if we don’t save the environment, we’re just signing a death wish for our [great]* grandchildren.   I’m just going to list out a couple of reasons I give people during conversations on why we should save the environment.. here they are:
    1. We would be keeping the bears happy…  I mean seriously.. look at this fellow.  He’s enjoying a little splash in the water without a care in the world.   If we don’t make an effort to save the environment, this is going to be a grumpy bear without any place to go other than your back yard.
    2. Prevent extinction – I’m constantly reading about how animals are going extinct.  This isn’t animal gone from the zoo, this is animal species GONE FOREVER!!   If you do a search at iucnredlist.org, you will see that in 2008, they listed 590 species as critically endangered, many with population trends continuing to decrease, and 8 species that were no longer in existance in the wild.  This article about the Monk Seal Extinction discusses the proof that humans are the cause of many of these extinctions.
    3. Keep the planet from melting - The proof keeps stacking up that the planet is warming.  Regardless of whether this is part of a natural cycle or not, the truth is that it is most definitely happening, and that we do contribute in some part.  If we all take some action to reduce our carbon footprint, and it makes the smallest difference.. won’t that mean something?
    4. Save the Rainforest – Deforestation is a huge problem.. Apparently, such a large percentage of the world is in need of food, that we continue to bulldoze the Rainforest to make cow pastures and corn fields… apparently noone pays attention to the fact that we grow all of this corn… TO FEED THE COWS.. maybe we should all just eat corn?   I found this pic which also explains it well..
    5. Make Al Gore happy – Just look at this guy..  do you want his face to get stuck like that?   Well, then do something about it.  The only way he’s going to be happy is if he knows everyone is trying to do something to help our environment.
If you don’t feel incredibly motivated to make 1 simple change to your lifestyle to better the environment, then you better have a good reason!!

    1. Greg Said,

      #5… LOL

    2. Meghan Said,

Well I certainly have to agree.
      1. The bears are our future. It will be like the Golden Compass. (If you haven’t seen it go watch it now). I’m not sure if anyone has seen the skit Bear City from SNL. I have and let me tell you that bears do, in fact, want to live in villages and wear hats and suits. So who are we to deny them this Right.
      2. Extinction is bad.
      3. It’s funny they say the planet is warming up. I’m still cold!
      4. I like corn.
      5. I want to stay on Al Gore’s good side because when the planet melts he is the one who will know where land still exists. It’ll be like Waterworld. Now just substitue Al Gore for Kevin Costner and bang that’s how it will be.

    3. r Said,

      i also agree

    4. joel Said,

      lol so funny:P

    5. Donna Deneault Said,

Please Help Us Save Our Environment in Canada. Please sign petition below that we are taking to our Premier of Ontario. We are asking that they NOT construct a garbage dump on the aquifer below the site. The cleanest water in the world is flowing there. Please read on. Website is attached below for you to sign petition. Thanks EVER so much ! – Donna Deneault, Toronto, Canada

(we need 5,000 signatures by end of February 2009)
      ==================================================
      Dear Friends,

We have been working to stop a dump site from being built on surface aquifers here in Ontario which represent some of the world’s purest water. The Site has been approved and we need every signature we can get to encourage the Government of Ontario to put a halt to this shameful project.

Let’s help prevent another disaster like Walkerton or near disaster like Adams Mine. Miller Waste Systems, the same company that wanted to turn Adams Mine into a dump (!), wants to create this dump site.

Please make a difference by taking a moment to sign our new petition at:

      http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/stop-dump-site-41

      Many, many thanks,

      Susan De Rosa

Here is the wording of the petition:
      ____________________________________________________________________

Target: Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty and Environment Minister John Gerretsen

Sponsored by: Danny Beaton (Turtle Clan, Mohawk Nation), The Council of Canadians, Citizens Concerned for Safe Water, Green Party of Canada, Sierra Club of Canada

We the undersigned demand that the Ontario Government reverse its decision granting permission to drain water from the aquifer at Site 41 in Simcoe County to allow for a landfill to be built on the site for the following reasons:

      1. Scientists have referred to the pristine artesian aquifer in the area as one of the cleanest sources of freshwater in the world, comparable to ancient arctic ice. The water is so clean it can be used as a benchmark for gauging the purity of other water around the world.

      2. There is widespread resistance to the proposed dump site within the communities around the aquifer. The citizens and First Nations of Simcoe County are demanding that the County explore other options to manage waste by implementing waste reduction strategies, upgrading the 50 existing landfills, and recycling recyclable products lying in older landfills.

      3. Several sources, including Environment Canada, agree that Canada is on the brink of a freshwater crisis. It is important that we make the protection of freshwater sources — not the placement of new landfills — our first priority.

      4. All life drinks from the springs that will be drained: beaver, bear, wolves, deer, fox, coyotes, turkeys, eagles, ducks and many others. The draining of the aquifer at Site 41 will affect the Wye River and Wye Marsh — an important bird sanctuary in Ontario. Your government must assess the impacts on the entire ecosystem of draining this crucial water supply.

      5. Building a dump site on a pristine aquifer fundamentally contradicts your government’s stated goal of moving Ontario “toward a zero-waste future.”

      6. The native peoples have not been consulted about the development of a garbage dump known as Site 41 in the territories of Georgian Bay and the Ojibwe, Chippewa, Metis, Wendat (Huron) and Mohawk Nations.

We are counting on you to make the right decision. Put a stop to Dump Site 41!

    7. Rihanna Said,

I agree with sister ( Haley) Although the Al Gore thing still freaks my out. But the pic is cool. Anyone want to send me that? :P

I like corn. But i ‘d not like giving it to the cows. Nor my sisters. By the way, Rihanna and Haley, if your reading this, you are so busted for eating my share of cake!

    9. makenna Said,

I think that helping the environment is one of the best things to do in the world rightnow.

    10. Diana Said,

hey you guys i agree that we are hurting our planet but it will never melt. I also agree that we have to help a lot of animal in the food chain because if we dont help them then the food chain or web is going to break and that will cause a big enviromental problem. Some thing w can do is stop eating them, stop hunting them for their ivory like africans do to the African Elephants only to make piano keys and jewerly.
STOP HUNTING THE ANIMAL BECAUSE THEY ARE GOING TO GET EXTINCT AND IT WILL CAUSE A BIG PROBLEM BECAUSE OF OUR FAULT HELP THE ANIMALS :]

    11. Samantha Said,

yeah i mean if we dont do something then all the animals will go extinct and then we will have to start eating each other because the planet will be to hot to grow crops by then.
